Pinus parviflora 'Kobe' Web SpecialsA dwarf variety of Japanese White Pine. Short, straight, thick needles no longer than 1 2 to 3 4 in length and Blue green. Plant grows about 4 6 inches a year. Mature at 8 ft.. Introduced Kobe Arboretum in Tokyo, Japan. Often used in bonsai, as the photo shows. Just to be totally clear, we offering for sale a 1 gallon tree that is 2 3 years old. The bonsai pictured is more than 20 years old, and is shown as an example of what can be created.

The foliage has curved sprays

as it grows about one third the rate of the Asian varieties

The medium green foliage turns red and orange in the fall

which means red star in Japanese

Also in spring the flowers are small and inconspicuous

maturing to creamy-beige

and can be pruned to keep tidy

then maturing to a red leaf with a yellow-green interior

making damage from frosts less likely
